| Release Notes

I'm going to write this review under the assumption that those of you
reading this are familiar with the works of Ringworm. If you can not count
yourself among this group, I implore you to stop what you're doing and
obtain 'The Promise', 'Birth Is Pain', 'Justice Replaced By Revenge' and
'The Venomous Grand Design' by any means necessary

Now, where were we? Ah yes... Ringworm 'Scars'. This album is a juggernaut
ferocious to the point of being a threat to all other bands who think they
know how to properly inject metal into hardcore. Unbeknownst to those who
think they are doing it right, they are caught under the shadow of Ringworm
and seemingly having not the slightest inkling as to what they're doing in
this game. There is no band that even comes close to outperforming Ringworm
at what it is that they do

Lets be honest here... it doesn't hurt when your vocalist is the Human
Furnace. He spews forth a grating and brutally honest commentary on his
state of the world views with absolute vehemence. Every line in every song
is scathingly vicious, capable evoking genuine rage in the listener. There
are very few others out there who perform at an equally high level in this
regard... Dwid from Integrity being one. Whether on record or in person, I
am floored by Furnace's delivery every time. This record is no exception to
this. He is undoubtedly the best there is. I challenge anyone to tell me
otherwise

As far as the actual players on this album... I'd like to start by saying
that they've got one of the best rhythm sections in hardcore. They
obviously cut their teeth in the realm of metal because the precision here
is stunningly executed. The drum work is not over the top by any means, but
incredibly accurate and consistent. The real star of this record musically
is the guitar playing. Not only will you find some of the best hardcore
riffs in the game, but also incredibly well thought out and straight up
nasty shredding. In very few places will you find songwriting this well
constructed. The production on here is actually quite raw and I love that
about it. All too often bands need to polish their tracks to the point of
that they lose any sense of urgency or real passion. Not Ringworm

I wholeheartedly believe 'Scars' will go down in the annals of hardcore
history as a record as highly regarded as 'The Promise' and 'Birth Is
Pain'. It is easily the best hardcore record I've heard so far this year
and with what has been released thus far... that is a VERY bold statement
This is easily the best work they've done since 'Birth Is Pain' and that
too, is a very bold statement

Ringworm is crowned atop a writhing mass of metallic hardcore bands who are
all vying for their chance to take on the king. They've been on this perch
since the early 90's and I don't see anyone changing that any time soon
