It only takes some minutes. Easy to convert, or more precisely, "demux", that means extracting the audio and video from the .mkv file and "remux" put them inside into .mp4 file. To demux: you can use mkvtoolnix, mkvextract, mkvcleaver, or avidemux. To remux: mp4muxer or tsMuxer or avidemux or eventually HandBrake.
On some players, you may want to keep the subtitles .srt file or .ssa file or .ass file outside of the .mp4 file, and make sure .mp4 and .srt files have the same name, example.mp4 and example.srt .
